LEASING COMPANY CALLS FOR HYBRID CARS IN EAST AFRICA

Leasing company Vehicle and Equipment Leasing Limited (VAELL) has
challenged motor leading dealers such as Toyota and GM East Africa to introduce and support
hybrid cars in East Africa.
Paul Njeru, the company’s CEO say VAELL continues to turn down lease requests from
customers especially development agencies for hybrid cars because of unavailability.

“There is unmet demand for low-emission cars . Whichever of the our top dealers
moves fast will have the advantage in the market," he says.
VAELL is among the oldest dealer-neutral leasing firms in the region.
The company clientele included eight listed corporations.
It has a market share of 30% of the development agencies.

Kenya hosts the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a factor that contributes
to the pressure for more responsibility to the environment.
"Nairobi should lead the way in all global efforts to mitigate climate change.
Gradually introducing low emission vehicles will assist the responsible institutions
that are already geared up at embracing them,” Mr Njeru.

According to the Environment and Earth Sciences research journal, emissions in Nairobi
are 150% higher than the recommended World Health Organization’s (WHO) guidelines,
with vehicular emissions among largest contributors.

Models such as Tesla X, Toyota Prius Hybrid have been imported into Kenya by individuals.
There is however no after sale support infrastructure in place in the region for hybrid/ electric vehicles.

Is Toyota the greatest Name Plate in East Africa?

MOTORING|  Why the Toyota Corolla is the greatest nameplate in Kenya Toyota Motors works with the Corolla makes the stuff for a perfect love story. Once she was discovered- it got better with age.  Last year, I  sat in a panel that judged and awarded the Toyota Corolla the car of the year 2009 (Kenya). The Publisher of the magazine that gave these awards however was space strained and limited our justification to a judgment of just 300 words: Obviously, not enough for a car with such a splendid legacy!   300 words sounded limiting especially after rigorous tests drive that reviewed handling, acceleration, braking, and stability on the road among other handling dynamics, which revealed  just how majestic the new Toyota Corolla was. We have Benda Kithaka, then Marketing Manager of Toyota East Africa to thank for this. The Corolla is no doubt Kenya’s greatest nameplate. This is how I will describe its legacy. As I grew up on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, this ...

How cooking gas will change Africa

How cooking gas will change Africa It depresses me to note that a tree must fall in Africa for someone to cook a meal. _________________________________ If there was one lesson Africa can learn from the way humankind has reacted to COVID19, it is how fast we must change our behaviors to survive when our environment changes. We need such drastic change in how we cook. It depresses me to note that ,presently, a tree must fall in Africa for someone to cook a meal. And that need not be the case. We have  recently joined the push to increase usage of clean cooking energy. According to the recent  United in Science  report, humanity is already seriously threatened by ongoing systemic ecological changes . UNEP says the world  is presently losing 10 million hectares of forest cover every year!  Forests  play important role in reduction of carbon dioxide from our environment, and without trees, we cannot win against  climate change .  Deforestation is ther...

Achieving the balance in multi product-brand marketing..

Some product brands will do better than others. How to balance your focus on all your product brands.   Marketing managers in the multi-product enterprise are faced with the unique challenge of achieving the perfect "performance-balance" in positioning of all their product-brands in the market.  Organizations and businesses that have more than one product-brands to place in a given market are often also grappling with insufficient resources for their marketing plans. Naturally, priority goes to the newest product and what performed best in previous business periods. This leaves the focus out for the products-brands that perform poorly or averagely in the market but that would do better if "pushed".  That product delivering excellent sales all year round deserves your time. It is worth good media play.  Yet there is that product-brand launched 3 years ago? Is your enthusiasm for it wearing off? The MBA, the banking product, the newly launched software product, the ...
